Medium voltage drives and synchronous transfer control

15:52

Variable frequency drives provide the greatest level of control for starting, running, and stopping motors. In this video we discuss Eaton’s SC9000 medium-voltage drive and how it can control multiple motors when engineered with our synchronous transfer system. We also educate on what a variable frequency drive is, what qualifies as a medium-voltage drive, and how the power equation affects their efficiency. Other topics we cover: - Safety – Design options that increase the safety of operators and the equipment - Harmonics – At the Power Systems Experience Center, we demonstrate how Eaton’s medium-voltage drive solution that can mitigate harmonics and reduce inrush current - Footprint – Designs to maximize footprint, for example integrated motor control and protection with common bus - Reliability – Solutions that increase reliability, such as cooling system, encapsulated power poles, and high mean time between failures (MTBF) Finally, we illustrate various scenarios in which a sync-transfer would be beneficial.
