Regulation and how to make flexibility pay
27:31
The EU's Fit-for-55 and RePowerEU initiatives will drive emission reductions to meet the UN’s 2050 net-zero target. Compliance deadlines that emerge throughout the 2020s will impact the building sector significantly because Europe’s buildings account for 40% of EU energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. Urgent action is needed to transform buildings into energy hubs, based on sector coupling. Monetising flexibility will help energy providers to access flexible energy resource to balance the grid. We sponsored the independent management consultancy, Baringa, to prepare a model that demonstrates the monetary value of energy flexibility. We describe the model in this presentation.
