Supercapacitor modules for pulse power applications
1:50
Electric mobility isn’t just for cars. Everything from pallet shuttles to buses to dockside cranes have been electrified in some way, and while it’s okay to charge car batteries overnight or during the workday, other applications need to run all day. With a low cycle life and slow charge and discharge rates, lithium-ion batteries can’t always deliver the needed power. Eaton supercapacitor modules provide the performance to make up for these shortcomings, and designers can use them with batteries or as standalone energy storage. Eaton supercapacitor modules support the higher charge and discharge rates needed in these applications. They’re also rated for millions of cycles, providing reliable operation for years with virtually zero maintenance. Eaton offers multiple module configurations, and modules can be connected in series or parallel to match the voltage and power requirements of the application. In material handling and warehouse automation, the highest power delivery occurs during lifting and initial acceleration, and batteries can’t always deliver. Eaton supercapacitor modules can deliver the peak power necessary, and they’re able to maximize energy recapture during deceleration or descent, which is almost completely lost when relying on batteries alone. Some applications can be entirely powered by supercapacitors and can be charged on the fly, eliminating the downtime caused by dead batteries. Public transportation also benefits from the rapid use capabilities of Eaton’s supercapacitor modules. Hybrid EVs can use supercapacitors to meet peak power requirements and improve energy recapture. This allows for smaller internal combustion engines and improved fuel economy in hybrids, while BEVs benefit from more stable use of the battery, leading to longer range and lower lifetime costs.
